Capacity Building Programme for Incorporating Sustainable Development into the Implementation of the World Heritage Convention in the Arab States Region / Call for participants

ARC-WH_Capacity BuildingICOMOS and its Sustainable Development Goals Working Group (SDGWG), the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH), the Heritage Commission in Saudi Arabia and ICOMOS Saudi Arabia are organizing a Capacity Building programme for Incorporating Sustainable Development into the Implementation of the World Heritage Convention in the Arab States Region.

This programme aims to provide practical explanations on the World Heritage and Sustainable Development Policy, and promote more effective and long-term heritage conservation in the Arab Region

The workshop modules will be focused on the concepts of World Heritage, Sustainable Development, the Historic Urban Landscape Approach, and practical applications of lessons learned using the World Heritage property Rock Art in the Hail Region of Saudi Arabia as the case study.

Participants will be able to acquire knowledge about key concepts regarding the UNESCO recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape (HUL), with implementation approaches as well as with the Policy for the Integration of a Sustainable Development perspective in the processes of the World Heritage Convention. Individual and group assignments will be given in order to strengthen the understanding of the aforementioned concepts. 

The Capacity Building Programme aims to :

A maximum of 30 applicants will be selected to take part in the programme, which will take place online (10-11, 24-25 June 2024) and onsite in Hail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (8-12 September 2024). The working language will be English with Arabic translation.
