The forthcoming triennium should be characterised by close co-operation among the different regions, starting with the full recognition of cultural diversity. The efforts of ICOMOS should be directed to that globalisation does not affect the tangible neither the intangible heritage in their diverse expressions. Principles contained in the Cultural Tourism Charter should be emphasised with the purpose of avoiding the physical and moral degradation of cultural heritage. The positive aspects of current conditions could be taken advantage of to the maximum, and in particular new information technology .
ICOMOS must pay more attention to the less advantaged regions where extraordinary values are accompanied by the population's extreme poverty. The principles of sustainable human development should, more and more, guide the work of ICOMOS. The protection of heritage should be considered an indicator of the quality of life. Integration among the different working levels should be developed and also the relationship between cultural management and planning should be articulated. The results reached by Scientific Committees could be integrated in order to achieve common objectives. Training of technicians, specialists and scientists should be intensified, as well as public awareness raising and information. It would be positive to develop distance learning.
The search for different financing sources must be continued and at the same time maximum advantage must be taken of the facilities offered by new technologies for easier and more efficient dissemination and exchange of ideas.
El próximo período de trabajo deberá caracterizarse por una cooperación estrecha entre las diferentes regiones, a partir del reconocimiento pleno de la diversidad cultural. Los esfuerzos de ICOMOS serían dirigidos a que la globalización no afecte al patrimonio tangible ni intangible en sus diversas expresiones y se continuaría enfatizando los principios contenidos en la Carta de Turismo Cultural con el fin de evitar la degradación física y moral del patrimonio. Los aspectos positivos de las condiciones actuales podrían ser aprovechados al máximo, y en particular las nuevas tecnologías de la información.
ICOMOS deberá reforzar la atención a las regiones menos favorecidas en las que extraordinarias riquezas patrimoniales van acompañadas por una pobreza extrema de la población. Los principios del desarrollo humano sostenible deberán, cada vez más, guiar la labor de ICOMOS . La protección del patrimonio sería considerada un indicador de calidad de vida. Se reforzaría la integración entre las diferentes escalas de trabajo y se articularían la gestión cultural y el planeamiento. Se buscaría una integración mayor de los resultados alcanzados por los Comités Científicos para el logro de los objetivos comunes. Deberá intensificarse la formación de técnicos, especialistas y científicos, así como la labor de divulgación y concienciación de la población. Sería positivo desarrollar la educación a distancia.
Se deberá continuar la búsqueda de diferentes formas de financiamiento y a la vez aprovechar al máximo las facilidades que brindan las nuevas tecnologías como vía para facilitar y hacer más eficiente la divulgación y el intercambio de ideas.
