Curriculum Vitae



  • Born 7th January 1956 in Valletta. Married an has two children. Still resides in Valletta.
  • Studied at the University of Malta, obtaining a BA Hons in History and later an MA in Baroque Studies. He is also preparing for his Ph.D in conservation. Also obtained a Diploma in Political and Social Science from London.
  • Has worked as a journalist but eventually had to set up his own business due to the situation in Malta in the late seventies.
  • Was very active in his student days and occupied various positions, both locally and internationally, in both student and youth organisations.
  • Very active in politics in his youth and was an elected Member of Parliament 1987-1992. Since 1992 he has not done any political activity.
  • In 1982 published a book on the rehabilitation of Valletta. This was eventually adopted by the party and in 1987 a Valletta Rehabilitation Project was set up. He was non executive coordinator 1987-1992 and Executive Coordinator since 1992. Since 1999 he is also responsible for two otehr projects [Mdina and Cottonera]. He is today responsible for the seven most important historic cities of Malta.
  • He was a pioneer in conservation in Malta [as was stated by Minister of Education to ICOMOS Bureau during meeting in Malta]. He is recognised in Malta as the person who has put conservation on the political agenda.
  • He encourged new members for ICOMOS Malta and set up the Maltese National Committee six years ago. He has attended all the important ICOMOS conferencies since then.
  • In Mexico he was elected to the Interntaional Executive of ICOMOS and has been very active in all its meetings.
  • He has undertaken a number of evaluation and monitoring missions.
  • He has published many papers on conservation and has read papers at many conferencies.
  • He has teached management of historic cities at various Universities and institutions.
  • He is now the President of CIVVIH.
  • He is active in varios other organisations in the conservation and historic towns area.
  • He is a member of the local Heritage Advisory Committee and of the Development Control Commission of the Malta Authority for Planning and Environment.
