Recalling the resolutions adopted on religious heritage by the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th General Assemblies of ICOMOS regarding the protection and enhancement of sacred heritage sites, buildings and landscapes;
Following the previous statements on the planned destruction of sacred heritage sites in Libya and Mali;
ICOMOS condemns the recent destructions of Sufi cultural heritage in Tunisia and continued threats to this heritage in several countries of the region.
ICOMOS endorses the Florence Declaration on Landscape 2012
On the recommendation of the ICOMOS IFLA International Scientific Committee on Cultural Landscapes, the ICOMOS Advisory Committee, at its meeting in Beijing on 1 November 2012, formally endorsed the Final Declaration of the UNESCO International Meeting on "The International Protection of Landscapes" held in Florence on 19-21 September 2012 on the occasion of the 40th Anniversary of the World Heritage Convention.

ICOMOS, in cooperation with ICCROM and the Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums of Syria (DGAM), and in coordination with UNESCO, held an e-learning course for Syrian cultural heritage professionals from 7 to 8 January 2013 at the Damascus National Museum. The course was led by the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Risk Preparedness- ICORP.

This project was launched in 2008 by the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC) on the initiative of the City of Lyon, in partnership with the UNESCO World Heritage Centre (within the framework of the France-UNESCO Convention and extrabudgetary funds from the Netherlands), the Council of Europe, the Getty Conservation Institute and ICOMOS, represented by its International Committee on Historic Cities and Villages (CIVVIH). The CIVVIH played an active part in identifying project managers and participating in the project’s steering committee.

19 December 2012 - Update: West Wing of the Central Government Offices in Hong Kong receives grade 1 listing and will be re-used to house Department of Justice 
ICOMOS is pleased to report that the Board of the Hong Kong Antiquities Authority announced on Monday, 17 December 2012, that the West Wing of the Central Government Offices in Hong Kong, for which ICOMOS had issued a Heritage Alert in June 2012, will be retained in government use, and the whole site will be graded 1, the highest grade under the Hong Kong legislation. The site will be used to house Department of Justice offices rather than being sold for a commercial development.
